2025 Concert Festival (modified repertoire requirements):

  • Band repertoire should include a March and two other selections of the Director’s choosing

  • Flex arrangements are allowed to meet the needs of the ensemble.

  • Although not required, it is recommended that bands choose selections from the following lists: NBA List, MICCA Grade 1 List, & Teaching Music Through Performance In Band Series Repertoire List

Directors who would like to consider performing literature that celebrates diversity and inclusion, feel free to visit these websites: ColourFULL Music and Institute for Composer Diversity.

  • “Comments only” ensembles do not need to adhere to any repertoire requirements. Comments only ensembles can perform 1, 2, or 3 pieces as long as they stay within the stage time limits.

  • Directors may choose to change from a medal rating to “Comments Only” up until the day of the festival.

  • Ensembles choosing “Comments Only” may write a brief narrative to the adjudicators giving background of the ensemble and any specific feedback they are requesting.

  • Your time on stage is limited to 30 minutes. This includes entering and leaving the stage, as well as time in between selections for the judges to make recorded commentary. Directors should plan their repertoire accordingly.

  • Three sets of each score with all measures numbered are required for the festival performance. Full scores are required. A condensed score of the march will be accepted.

  • We trust that directors will choose quality literature and believe that bands should demonstrate a variety of styles in their programming. Failure to follow the performance requirements will result in disqualification.

Some pieces may be permanently out of print. Directors are advised to contact members of the Executive Board, who may assist you in acquiring these pieces.

Literature on the MICCA Grade 1 List will be reviewed during the summer break and updated in the fall. If you would like to suggest a piece for future use, please add to festival feedback or email the concert festival co-chairs at . Literature will not be added during the school year for the current festival.

Orchestras
Final Director Information will be posted here when available. (includes Announcement/Instrumentation Sheet, percussion instruments provided, program submission link and specific site details).

Directors who are planning to perform in the Concert Festival must prepare three selections and consider the following:

  • Orchestras will perform three separate works of the director's choice for either full orchestra or strings alone. There is no required repertoire list for orchestra. MICCA believes that orchestras should demonstrate a variety of styles in their programming. You may not use a single work of three or more movements to fulfill the repertoire requirement.

  • Orchestras may perform as string orchestra and/or full orchestra. Directors can also select a combination of literature for string and full orchestra for the same ensemble. For example, piece 1 can be string orchestra and pieces 2-3 can be full orchestra.

  • A single movement of a larger work may be performed in fulfillment of a single selection. Abridged editions are allowed.

  • Your time on stage is limited to 30 minutes. This includes entering and leaving the stage, as well as time in between selections for the judges to make recorded commentary. Directors should plan their repertoire accordingly.

  • Three copies of each score with all measures numbered are required for the festival performance. Full scores of each selection are required.

  • We trust that directors will choose quality literature and believe that orchestras should demonstrate a variety of styles in their programming. Failure to follow the performance requirements will result in disqualification.

Previous Festival Programs
MICCA has linked the following google sheets of previous festivals as a resource for directors. These sheets are view only, please make a copy if you would like to view or sort in a particular way. These are director-provided program submissions and do not necessarily reflect the recommendations or literature requirements of the current festival year. Furthermore, some of these programs may include directors that selected to participate for comments only or that revised their programs after submitting on this original form. Again, not every program listed here meets the literature requirements of the festival or may have been revised or updated after the initial form was completed.
